In first year Classical Chinese, students participate in seminars during which they translate, present and discuss passages of Classical Chinese. Groups of students inspire each other as they practice interpreting and translating a passage, working from the Classical Chinese toward a final English translation to present to the class. The groups lead a thoughtful discussion to help deepen each other's understanding of Classical Chinese texts.
Right: A funny moment in Classical Chinese class. Students were practicing pronunciation by acting out passages from the Analects of Confucius. One student surprised the class with a DIY Confucius costume.
The passage in the video:
Fan Chi asked about benevolence.
The Master said it is loving people.
Fan Chi asked about wisdom.
The Master said it is knowing people.
