Religion East & West
The Annual Journal of the Institute for World Religions

About Religion
East and West
Religion East and West is the annual journal of the Institute for World Religions. The journal furthers the Institute’s mission of promoting knowledge about the world’s religions in the service of interfaith understanding and trust. The journal seeks to publish articles by authors who are grounded in one or another of the great spiritual traditions, and who are immersed in the scholarly investigation of their own tradition and/or the traditions of others.
While the journal’s articles approach topics in religion from a wide variety of perspectives—focusing on doctrine, practice, ethics, history, biography or other aspects—all have in common a respect and appreciation for the manifold variety of human religiosity.
Religion East and West has been privileged to publish the works of important scholars and lecturers in religion. They include Huston Smith, Raimon Pannikar, Henry Rosemont, Michael Nagler, Mary Evelyn Tucker, Fr. Pierre-François de Béthune, and Rev. Bhiksu Heng Sure. All of the journal’s contributors are distinguished by active spiritual lives in their own traditions and by lifelong engagement in constructive encounter with other religions.
