The Vinaya School in China was founded by Vinaya Master Daoxuan (596-667 C.E.). Its roots go back to the time of the Buddha and the Venerable Upāli, who was foremost among the Buddha’s disciples in practicing the regulations for personal conduct laid down by the Buddha.
