Do we pass or fail? Bhikshuni Heng Je discusses the following verse by Venerable Master Hsuan Hua:

Everything is a test
To see what you will do.
If you fail to recognize what is before you,
You will have to start anew!

一切是考驗
看爾怎麼辦？
覿面若不識，
須再從頭煉。

Bhikshuni Heng Je is a Lecturer on Buddhist study and practice; translation and language studies; and Chinese studies at Dharma Realm Buddhist University.
