Academic Standards & Policies
State Authorization
In accordance with CEC 94310 (h), the Bureau for Private Postsecondary
and Vocational Education has awarded Dharma Realm Buddhist University the status of Approval to Operate as a California Degree-granting Institution
pursuant to the California Education Code, Section 94310 (c); it is not
approved by any accrediting organization in California or any other state.
Arrangements have been made with Dominican College to offer accredited
extension units for some courses at an additional fee of $35 per unit. DRBU
graduate students may also enroll in Graduate Theological Union classes
taught by DRBU faculty for accredited units with additional fees.
NON-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY
Dharma Realm Buddhist University admits students of any race, color, or
national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities
generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, or national or ethnic origin in
administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid
programs, and other school-administered programs.
CALIFORNIA STUDENT TUITION RECOVERY FUND
The State of California created the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF)
to relieve or mitigate economic losses suffered by California residents who
were students attending schools approved by or registered to offer Shortterm
Career Training with, the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational
Education.
You may be eligible for STRF if you are a California resident, prepaid tuition,
paid the STRF fee, and suffered an economic loss as a result of any of
the following:
- The school closed before the course of instruction was completed.
- The school’s failure to pay refunds or charges on behalf of a student to a third party for license fees or any other purpose, or to provide equipment
or materials for which a charge was collected within 180 days before the
closure of the school.
- The School’s failure to pay or reimburse proceeds received by the school prior to closure in excess of tuition and other costs.
- The school’s breach or anticipatory breach of the agreement for the course of instruction.
- There was a decline in the quality of the course of instruction within 30 days before the school closed, or if the decline began earlier than 30 days prior to closure, at time period of decline determined by the Bureau.
- The school committed fraud during the recruitment or enrollment or program participation of the student.
Students may be eligible for STRF if they were unable to collect a court
judgment rendered against the school for violation of the Private Postsecondary
and Vocational Education Reform Act of 1989.
Students must pay the state-imposed fee for the Student Tuition Recovery
Fund (STRF) if all of the following applies:
- The student is a California resident and prepays all or part tuition, either by cash, guaranteed student loans, or personal loans, and
- The student’s total charges are not paid by any third-party payer such as an employer, government program or other payer, unless there is a separate agreement to repay the third party.
